Jude 1:24-25 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”
We all have our favorite go-to verses reminding us the Lord has all things under control even when things around us seem to be falling apart. The passage in Jude is one of my favorites and is something I’ve prayed for Mormons to embrace as their own.
Today we’re looking at part of a talk given by Julie Beck in May 2010. To read her talk in full see Liahona, “And upon the Handmaids in Those Days Will I Pour Out My Spirit”, May 2010, p.10-12. At the time she gave the talk she was serving as the LDS Relief Society President.
For the sake of brevity, we’ve pulled a quote she made by the Church’s 2nd Relief Society President, Eliza R. Snow.
Preceding the insight from Ms. Snow, Mrs. Beck reminded LDS women of at least 8 things they must do before they can know God (see p. 10). As you can imagine all those things involve work.
The alarming thing about Mrs. Beck’s article is how seemingly easy it was to use Eliza Snow’s words as if they were nothing out of the ordinary for a Christian’s life.
“The second general Relief Society president, Eliza R. Snow, said this to the sisters: “We want to be ladies in very deed, not according to the term of the word as the world judges, but fit companions of the Gods and Holy Ones. In an organized capacity we can assist each other in not only doing good but in refining ourselves, and whether few or many come forward and help to prosecute this great work, they will be those that will fill honorable positions in the Kingdom of God. . . . Women should be women and not babies that need petting and correction all the time.””
Although Mrs. Beck said these things in 2010, the same beliefs still exist in Mormonism. The goal of every LDS member is to become a god, or goddess of their own planet someday. The only way to achieve that status is through the temple after proving their obedience to the Church.
Continue to pray for members who are still buying into the lies of their leaders, and not trusting in the true Savior Christ Jesus!
With Love in Christ –—
Michelle
