Christian Era
Mormon Doctrine p. 131 “See –>CHRIST, –>CHRISTIANITY. On the false assumption that Christianity had its beginning with our Lord’s mortal ministry, his birth was chosen to mark the beginning of the so-called Christian Era. Though there is considerable controversy and uncertainty among scholars of the world as to the actual year of Christ’s birth, the revelation given on the day the Church was organized in this dispensation apparently intends to convey the thought that he was born April 6, B.C. 1. (D. & C. 20:1.)” – Bruce McConkie
Acts 11:26 “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
Mormon leaders have historically taught that Christianity is as old as Adam. That’s a difficult theory to live up to considering Jesus wasn’t born yet!
Sadly, the problem of dating didn’t deter any of the Mormon leaders.
Also take notice of how they’ve changed the subject matter by pointing out that the ‘correct’ date of Jesus’ birth was April 6, BC 1.
For those who are unaware of the significance of this date…April 6, 1830 is the official date of the founding of Mormonism.
By throwing out the Bible and convincing hundreds of people there’s a problem with the written word, Smith was able to introduce his heresies.
Not long ago while speaking with my mother on the phone, I mentioned a series of sermons my pastor was preaching on from the book of Romans.
At the end of our conversation, she asked me where the book of Romans was located and who wrote it.
Now I want to clarify something here. 1. When I was LDS I wouldn’t have known where is was either. 2. I want to underscore that I’m not saying your salvation or walk with the Lord, is dependent upon you knowing where to find the book of Romans, or that you need to know the apostle Paul wrote it. That’s not what I’m talking about here.
If you’re a home teacher to other members in your congregation, why don’t you know where to find a book in the Bible?
I’m wondering why she didn’t learn about this at church? She was born and raised into Utah Mormonism. She’s lived there all but 4-5 years of her entire life. If they’re Christians why don’t they know?
My heart was sick when I hung up the phone, and couldn’t do anything but cry. How very, very sad.
I know I’m not alone with this example, so don’t forget to pray for people who have family and friends in Mormonism, and for LDS members as well!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
I share your tears.
In the Mormon church, during Sunday School, Quorum meetings or Relief Society meetings, or whenever the Bible is being discussed, the teacher will always cite the page number of whatever Bible chapter is being discussed. I believe that It might be LDS church policy for teachers to have to cite the page number of any Bible verse that is being spoken about. Mormons are not really encouraged to read the Bible like they are the Book of Mormon. You won’t hear an Relief Society teacher or a Priesthood quorum teacher, citing the page number of a chapter in the Book of Mormon. Why? Because that teacher might then be inferring that members of his/her class have not read the entire Book of Mormon.
Interesting. I hadn’t thought of that aspect. It’s been several yrs now since I had that conversation with my mother and I was reminded of it the other day when she asked me if the book of Isaiah was in the Old, or New Testament.
It’s another good reminder to always be diligent!
