Intelligent People in Darkness Rejecting Joseph
Journal of Discourses 8:223 “Every intelligent person under the heavens that does NOT, when informed, acknowledge that Joseph Smith, jun. is a Prophet of God, is in darkness, and is opposed to us and to Jesus and his kingdom on the earth. What do you suppose I think of them? They cannot conceive their own degradation.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 21, 1860
Acts 5:41 “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.”
Not long after I was saved I found myself being taunted by someone because of questions I asked in a Sunday school class I was attending. I’m guessing they were things I should’ve known by that time in my life.
A few weeks into the class a wise Christian man handed me a piece of paper with something written on it, and all it said was “Acts 5:41 – memorize it”. At the time I didn’t know the man who handed me the note, but I grew to look up to him and called on him in the early years of my walk with the Lord.
That note is still in my Bible.
The passage in Acts is a good reminder we can be secure in our knowledge of what Jesus has done for us and the truth of what God has told us in His word. Hurling insults, or empty threats, isn’t godly behavior let alone bring glory to God.
Sadly, my family and many others like them were sitting in the audience when Brigham spewed his lies. How I wish they would’ve known about Acts 5:41!
Share the passage in Acts with a Mormon you know and explain how God speaks to all of us at any time!
With Love in Christ —

How can one be a true prophet of God when all his prophecies failed?!?
Also like you said not long ago how can it be a true church when their doctrine keeps changing. Sigh…
The Bible says Joe Smith was not a prophet of God (Deuteronomy 18:18-18-22); Jeremiah 14:14; Ezekiel 13:17). Yet, Brigham Young says not only was he a prophet of God, but that those that reject him will not be saved.
Unfortunately, the Mormons have chosen the words of men over the Word of God.
It’s tragic for the unknowing members who truly believe they love the Bible yet refuse to open it up to see passages like those you’ve mentioned. 🙁
