Conference Report, April 1980, p.100 “If we, as a people, keep the commandments of God; if we take the side of the Church on all issues, both religious and political; if we take the Holy Spirit for our guide; if we give heed to the words of the apostles and prophets who minister among us——then, from an eternal standpoint, all things will work together for our good.” — Bruce R. McConkie
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Mr. McConkie lifted a phrase from a book he doesn’t trust; aka the Bible.
The verse from Romans was Paul’s reminder that it’s God’s will to work through circumstances in the believer’s lives. Two key elements in the verse are that it’s God who does the work and the recipient is the believer.
Regrettably, this talk was another example of how the Church manipulates its members. We’re also wondering what role the Holy Spirit has in light of the long list of authorities that are guiding them.
These dear people have been tricked into believing they have to orchestrate all things in their lives. As we mentioned yesterday, the Lord is there in name only.
We looked at this topic six years ago and sadly nothing has changed, they’re still controlling members with their mandates today.
Please, pray for those who believe these lies and for the Lord to intervene!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
Bruce R. was full of wisdom, wasn’t he. Too bad it had nothing to do with the word of God. Here is another way to see how dupicitous they are in SLC. They scornfully point at churches b/c of their paid clergy. The LDS church pridefully points to all the free labor they get from the members who, in addition to having real jobs, run their wards. However, the men in suits don’t reveal how much the church takes in to the members. The ‘unpaid’ clergy in SLC have all their needs generously paid for for life. Pretty good deal if you can get one.
You know Sandra… the 1 thing I actually appreciate about McConkie is the fact he was upfront with church doctrine, (hence his book Mormon Doctrine) and didn’t try to shy away from the issues.
Also, most pastors and associate pastors, have been to Bible colleges/ Universitys. They were trained in biblical language (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic). Also, they were trained in pastoral care, to properly help their congregation, with grief counseling, marriage and family issues etc…
Most LDS bishops aren’t trained at all. And have NO business being alone in a room with minors or women. That being said most pastors have had a love of God’s Word and have dedicated their life’s work to sharing the Gospel, so why shouldn’t they get paid? Most people don’t further their education to not get paid.
So if the “church” says abortion is okay, then LDS members have to accept abortion? There are a lot of moral issues for which the LDS church can lead people wrongly — remember polygamy, which the LDS church leaders first lied claiming they were practicing it and then everyone NEEDED to have more than one wife to be exalted?
Melissa, Your comment about Bishops not being trained is so true. My dad was my bishop when I was an adult. He was a Borden’s milkman and then a State Farm Ins agent. He knew nothing about interpersonal relationships, etc. Not a bad guy, just a really tough father. After he had been bishop for a while, he told me he never realized what great kids we were (four of us) until people started coming into his office with their problems.
