“Never nourish an experience which has not God as its Source, and faith in God as its result. If you do, your experience is anti-Christian, no matter what visions you may have had. Is Jesus Christ Lord of your experiences, or do you try to lord it over Him?” — Oswald Chambers
Conference Report, October 1989, p.17 “Things of the Spirit need not–indeed, should not–require our uninterrupted time and attention. Ordinary work-a-day things occupy most of our attention. And that is as it should be. We are mortal beings living in this physical world. Spiritual things are like leavening. By measure they may be very small, but by influence they affect all that we do.” — Boyd K. Packer
1 Corinthians 2:12-14 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Mr. Packer’s talk is an example of why I’m in ministry.
We pray the Mormon people will allow the Lord to direct their paths and take heed to what Oswald Chambers said.
I can’t imagine not having conversations with the Lord throughout my day even about the little things that keep me occupied. This man’s advice is essentially telling members to shut the Lord out of their thoughts and has relegated a time slot for God to make an appearance when it’s convenient for them.
This is absolutely heartbreaking and he made it sound as if spiritual things like leavening is a bad thing. May the Lord have mercy on these dear people!
Share with a Mormon what your daily life is like as a Christian. This will give them something to think about as they go throughout their day.
