‘Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet’. Acts 7:48
Today we’re looking at a GC talk given by Gerrit Gong and comparing what he said to what the Lord says in His word.
We pray you’ll ask the Mormon you know for their opinion on one or two of the items listed.
We also pray those who listened to this man’s talk will see the futility in his directives. The saddest part of his talk was at the end when he said Easter means their families can be happy and together forever. There was no true explanation of why Jesus was crucified, nor was there any explanation about His resurrection.
To read his talk in full see General Conference, ‘We Each Have a Story’ April 2022.
Please, pray for the Mormon people and ask the Mormon you know about some of the things we’ve listed here!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
Gerrit Gong | Bible |
1.Do you know your story? What your name means? … The question “Where are you from?” also invites us to discover our divine identity and spiritual purpose in life. … | There’s nothing divine inside of mankind Romans 3:10. To insinuate otherwise means you’re a polytheist and God said He is the only God there is Isaiah 43:10-11.
John 1:12 states we have the right to become sons of God when we receive and believe in Jesus. This is our true identity! This is only one of countless examples you can find by doing a simple search on a believer’s identity in Christ. Furthermore, our purpose in life is to fulfill what Jesus said in Matthew 22:36-40 by loving the Lord with all your heart and to love others as you do yourself. |
2.We honor our ancestors by opening the heavens through temple and family history work and by becoming a welding link in the chain of our generations. … | Performing works for the dead is necromancy and there’s nothing honorable in such practices.
The Lord strictly forbade us from consulting with the dead in Leviticus 20:6-8. |
3.Ties with ancestors increase family closeness, gratitude, miracles. Such ties can bring help from the other side of the veil. … | How does this increase miracles? Furthermore, Jesus told us in Luke 16:19-31 that dead people can’t communicate with those who are alive.
This man’s statement sounds like he’s encouraging people to invite dead people into their presence. |
4.God wants our families to be happy and forever. … | This can’t be true because Jesus told us in Mark 12:25 there are no marriages in heaven. |
5.Through sacred covenants, Jesus Christ offers His love, power, and grace to change us and heal our relationships. | The only covenant we need to worry about is accepting that Jesus spilt His precious blood to save us — Romans 10:9-10! |
6.Selfless temple service for dear ones makes our Savior’s Atonement real for them and us. | Wrong — this draws people away from the Lord, not to Him. |
7.Sanctified, we can return home to God’s presence as families united eternally. | Necromancy doesn’t sanctify us! As stated earlier the only means of doing this is through His blood — Hebrews 13:12-13.
FWIW, my parents were divorced and both of their parents were divorced as well. You can just imagine that scenario… |
8.The sociality we create here can exist with eternal glory there… | Again, there’s no such thing as ‘families are forever’ as Jesus told us in Luke 16:19-31 and Mark 12:25. |
9.As you perform temple ordinances for family members, the spirit of Elijah, “a manifestation of the Holy Ghost bearing witness of the divine nature of the family,” will knit the hearts of your fathers, mothers, and children together in love. | This is a classic example of how the Church has taken a portion of one or two bible verses out of context and built an entire doctrine on it. Malachi 4:5-6 —
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” We see in Luke 1:17 where the angel Gabriel told Zechariah that his son John would come in the spirit of Elijah. |
10.Remember the demographics of heaven. There are many more on the other side of the veil than on this side. | This is Mr. Gong’s attempt at trying to lay a guilt trip on LDS members. The reality is that very few Mormons are actually temple worthy. This has nothing to do with the Lord, or Easter. |
11.As more temples come closer to us, please offer those waiting for temple ordinances opportunity to receive them. | The phrase ‘temples come closer to us’ was used by their apostle Gary Stevenson we looked at a couple of days ago. That phrase seems ominous, not welcoming! See Evil Roams the Earth for more info. |
12.The promise at Easter and always is that, in and through Jesus Christ, we can become our best story and our families can become happy and forever. | The promise of Easter is that Jesus died for our sins, and was resurrected to show we have eternal life with Him! Romans 4:25 |
13.This is the very purpose for which God created the heavens and the earth and saw that they were good.” — Gerrit Gong | God didn’t create the earth so we can become gods of our own planet. God created us to have a relationship with Him! Colossians 1:16
How can someone give total allegiance and devotion to God by working for godhood status? |
finally beloved, don’t forget the warning Jesus gave to us – | Mark 13:21-22; “And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: 22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” |
Compare His words to what an LDS prophet said… | Gordon B. Hinckley, LDS Church News, June 20, 1998, p. 7; “The traditional Christ of whom they [evangelical Christians] speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.” |
