June 25 – Plain and Precious Things. Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

When witnessing to a Mormon, be sure to point out that Jesus totally, and unequivocally relied upon the scriptures, and encouraged others to do so as well! See Matthew 5:18. If there were any precious parts left out, certainly the Lord would know about it and warn others! Ask why their own canon as well as their leaders emphasize that members should mistrust what God has gone out of His way to protect. Don’t allow them to go off on other subject matters, stick to this and then end your conversation. You’re not there to ‘win’ any arguments. Christians are commissioned to share the truth, and then it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convert! Two examples of how the Church maligns God’s word are listed here for you to use when witnessing and to give you an idea of how they view God’s Holy Bible. If they discount McConkie, which is quite common, remind them this article comes from the Ensign, which they consider God’s word…
One of the Church’s premiere scholars (Bruce McConkie) stated, “The Bible of the Old World has come to us from the manuscripts of antiquity – manuscripts which passed through the hands of uninspired men who changed many parts to suit their own doctrinal ideas. Deletions were common, and, as it now stands, many plain and precious portions and many covenants of the Lord have been lost. As a consequence, those who rely upon it alone [the Bible] stumble and are confused” (Ensign, December 1985, p 55).

1 Nephi 13:26-28 “And after they go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away. 27 And all this have they done that they might pervert the right ways of the Lord, that they might blind the eyes and harden the hearts of the children of men. 28 Wherefore, thou seest that after the book hath gone forth through the hands of the great and abominable church, that there are many plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God.”

Are they referring to the methodist church? Aren’t there membership records for Joe joining that great and abominable church after he was told that was a no-no? It’s all so corrupt and deceitful.
Yes, there are records showing Smith had joined the Methodist church but that isn’t talked about as far as I know. You can read Smith’s attempt at becoming Methodist in our article https://lifeafterministry.com/2014/10/joe-smith-becomes-methodist-almost/
My lame, facetious attempt at finger-pointing. As Sir Walter Scott said, ‘Oh, what a tangeled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.’ Sounds like he could have been addressing Joseph and the suits who followed in his footsteps.
