July 10 – Jesus gave His life because… Galatians 1:4 “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father”.
_____
Many people believe if you’re a good person you’ll go to heaven. This autocratic theology is dangerous because men’s standards are much different than God’s, and who decides by which things are measured?
If requirements for heaven aren’t measured by the Lord, we could be subject to the likes of someone like Hitler, or Manson, or someone even worse. No doubt both have believed they were in the right.
Likewise, Mormon theology is no better by stating Jesus gave His life for our happiness.
The outside things that make me happy are probably much different than yours, making His sacrifice insipid for everyone but me. A friend of our ministry shared that her late pastor gave a sermon on this, “Happiness depends on happenings, But true joy is in Jesus.” This is a great model for the Christian to live by, with the priority of knowing foremost Jesus gave Himself for our sins.

Ensign, ‘Trust in the Lord,’ November 1995 “I testify that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you. I witness that the Savior gave His life for your happiness. I know Him. He understands your every need. I positively know that as you accept Their will without complaint, They will bless and sustain you.” – Richard G. Scott
