General Conference, ‘Be Perfected in Him,’ October 2022 “No matter how capable, educated, brilliant, or strong we are, we cannot cleanse ourselves from our sins… It is His atoning blood that cleanses us and sanctifies us.
… Although we can’t save ourselves, when we submit to the Lord’s will and keep our covenants, the way is open for our redemption.
… There is only one way and one name whereby perfection comes. We are “made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood.”
… Our perfection is only possible through God’s grace…” — Paul V. Johnson
Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
For the sake of brevity today we’re highlighting some of the key points in Paul Johnson’s speech given at General Conference. To read his talk in full see link provided above.
The most important part of Mr. Johnson’s talk is what he didn’t say.
While he used the phrase ‘shedding of His own blood’ numerous times he never mentioned that the atoning blood of Jesus was shed on the cross. As we all know Joe Smith taught in D&C 19:18 Jesus paid for some sins in Gethsemane.
Furthermore, Mr. Johnson contradicted himself by stating that while they can’t save themselves, he added ‘we must keep our covenants’ which means salvation comes through works.
Pease, pray for this man and his family! His talk was based on an experience they had when his grandson was very ill but healed through a bone marrow transplant. We’re praying for his continued good health but most importantly that Mr. Johnson will have a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and Him crucified!
With Love in Christ —
