Elder Ulisses Soares: ‘Followers of the Prince of Peace’ “…Latter-day Saints are His peculiar people, called to proclaim His virtues and promote the peace available through His atoning sacrifice.
“This peace is a gift promised to all who turn their hearts to the Savior and live righteously… We cannot carry such a corrosive burden that destroys feelings, relationships and even lives…
Latter-day Saints should consider ways to be uplifting, supporting, understanding and forgiving, as well as look for the good in others. “I promise you that as we pursue and develop these attributes, we will become more and more cordial and sensitive to the needs of our fellow beings and will experience joy, peace and spiritual growth.” — Ulisses Soares
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
There are a few things to look at with Mr. Soares’ talk today.
1.Some attributes he mentioned that members should work towards are the fruits of the Spirit which are the works of God, not man.
2.The transliteration for the word peculiar is סְגֻלָּה and pronounced ‘seg-ool-law’. It means possession, valued property, peculiar treasure, proper, good, special.
They’ve rejected God so how could they possibly be the Lord’s true possession?
3.An example of a corrosive attitude can be found in the BoM narrative. Declaring that dark people are lazy and loathsome is far from uplifting.
4.The phrase ‘Prince of Peace’ is found in Isaiah 9:6 and speaks of the Trinity. Why are they using this when they don’t believe that Jesus is God?
Lastly beloved the Church says they promote good tidings and peace; however, I don’t know of a single family where this is true. Every family we know of has been negatively affected by their false gospel.
Once again, we’re asking for people to pray for members of the Church and for Jesus to intervene! To read Mr. Soares’ talk in full see General Conference, ‘Followers of the Prince of Peace,’ April 2023.
With Love in Christ —
