Leviticus 18:21 “And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”

How did Mr. Smith know where the Nephites lived?
Historically speaking, the Church has changed their minds several times on where the Nephites lived. It seems this is a pretty bold claim they were in the vicinity of the Mayan people.
Why would a God-fearing man or woman claim ties to anything the Mayans did?
Mayans were polytheists who worshipped countless nature gods in their stone temples, practiced witchcraft, and performed human sacrifices to their malevolent fertility gods.
As an FYI…
According to Britannica the Mayan people lived c. BC 1500. History.com reports they lived c. BC 1800 – 200 AD and developed a 365-day calendar. You can also find other sites claiming they existed c. BC 7000.
They also practiced divination centering on their calendar years which consisted of 18 months.
When a Mormon official in any capacity says things like this from their pulpit the Mormon people listen and believe everything they’re told – my mother is a good example of this. This also includes the many missionaries that come to my door and claim the same thing. With the invention of the internet this is yet another problem the Church has created for itself.
Truth always stands the same and here we have the Mormon hierarchy spouting lies told almost a hundred years ago.
If you want to claim that your holy scripture came forth from people performing human sacrifices that’s your choice but please don’t call it Christianity.
As my grandfather used to say, “God’s going to get you for that”.
Please pray for Jesus to intervene and for my people to think about who they’re worshiping!
