March 11 — Disobedience Caused Lamanite’s Dark Skin. Answers to Gospel Questions, vol. 3, p. 122 “The dark skin was placed upon the Lamanites so that they could be distinguished from the Nephites and to keep the two peoples from mixing. The dark skin was the sign of the curse. The curse was the withdrawal of the Spirit of the Lord and the Lamanites becoming a “loathsome and filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations.” (I Nephi 12:23.) The Lord commanded the Nephites not to intermarry with them, for if they did they would partake of the curse.” — Joseph Fielding Smith, 1953

Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Now for the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say…
The synopsis of Smith’s remaining entry in his book gets worse. Apparently, the Lamanites behaved for a while and had the curse removed just in time for Jesus’ appearance to the Americas. Everyone was nice to each other, and everyone was white and delightsome for 194 years – 4 Nephi 17-20.
After that time the Lamanites misbehaved again, and the curse of dark skin came back.
Fast forward 1,532+ years and Joseph Fielding Smith went on to say that many dark-skinned converts are delightsome and are losing their dark pigment. Some he said could ‘pass as white people’.
Great.
Apparently, this man didn’t care about what the Lord said in Galatians or the many other bible passages that condemn racism.
Besides all that it’s hard to believe that God would change people’s skin color at all let alone when they didn’t behave.
We could go on and on with the different problems in this man’s writings but for now this will have to do.
Pray for Mormons to think about this and wonder what kind of god they’re worshiping!

“Joseph Fielding Smith went on to say that many dark-skinned converts are delightsome and are losing their dark pigment. Some he said could ‘pass as white people’.”
I would like to see evidence of this; a black person turning white because they are Mormons.
Well, my great grandmother was dark and a convert and no in the family mentioned that she got lighter after she converted. Hmmm…
WOW…I must really be righteous. I’m super pale, if I wear shorts you’ll need sunglasses.😎
But in all seriousness, God loves his creation.
Revelation 7 : 9
After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, and.kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
What a beautiful sight that will be. People from ALL NATIONS in white robes will stand before the throne.

Too funny!
Like you I’ve often thought of that same verse. Whenever I’m speaking in front of an audience I am always amazed how the Lord has brought people together.
This is true Christianity – PTL!
Also, in the most quoted passage (John 3:116), it says that WHOSOEVER ( not a select group of people), believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Good point Melissa!
