January 28 — Messenger and Advocate, Vol. 1, No. 5, February 1835, p 78 “…and it is only necessary for me to say that while this excitement continued he continued to call upon the lord in secret for a full manifestation of divine approbation and for to him the all important information if a supreme being did exist to have an assurance that he was accepted of him.”

The Church began writing their history from its onset and one of the tools they used to get the word out was to publish their activities and doctrines in a monthly periodical they called Messenger and Advocate. Oliver Cowdery was the editor but make no mistake nothing in that publication was in there without the express approval of Joe Smith.
Today’s LDS example comes from a publication in 1835 where Cowdery explained to readers that Smith prayed in 1823 to ask for proof a supreme God did exist.
We’re wondering why he had to do this if God had already appeared to him in 1820 and told him not to join any other church because they were all corrupt?
Did God not make himself clear in 1820 causing Smith to need further clarification? If Smith’s experience in 1820 was one of the most monumental events known to mankind, why did he do this?
Besides all that, why would Smith ask to see God if God is a spirit?
While most Mormons won’t know about this particular event you can use this a witnessing tool to ask why Smith needed clarification about what he saw.

[…] Joseph Smith Confused about Vision […]
He made it all up, that’s why he can’t remember it. Prayers for all Mormons.
I think I answered your comment but if not then I’ll say it again! YES! It’s much easier to remember the truth than a lie!
Oh what tangled webs we weave….
This is what happens whenever you fabricate things. Why would Smith need verification if God approved of him?
