March 29 — Doctrine and Covenants 132:34-36 “God commanded Abraham, and Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to wife. And why did she do it? Because this was the law; and from Hagar sprang many people. This, therefore, was fulfilling, among other things, the promises. 35 Was Abraham, therefore, under condemnation? Verily I say unto you, Nay; for I, the Lord, commanded it. 36 Abraham was commanded to offer his son Isaac; nevertheless, it was written: Thou shalt not kill. Abraham, however, did not refuse, and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.”

Genesis 15:5 “And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”

Oh my.
Today we’re looking at a small section of an LDS Seminary Teaching Manual, p. 732. As you can see in the D&C reference above they are wrong in many things.
1.God did not command that Sarai give Hagar to Abram.
2.Sarai told Abram to take Hagar in to be his wife.
Genesis 16:2-3, 10, 15. This took place c. BC 2081.
3.There were no laws for someone like Sarai to give her slave (Hagar) to Abram.
4.The many people that sprang from Abram and Hagar are Muslims, not Israelites. While Hagar’s son, Ishmael, did produce many people they aren’t part of God’s people.
5.Abraham’s obedience to offer Isaac is out of context. This took place c. BC 2054. Genesis 22:6-14.
6.The Genesis reference is from the Church and it’s wording is plagiarized from the KJV.
They seem to have no problem lying to the most vulnerable. Seminary students are 14-18 years old.
Please pray for these people and share the truth about Abraham, Sarah and Hagar with a Mormon today!
The bottom line in this is how the Church has incorporated Joe Smith’s polygamy problem into a lesson about the OT which they got wrong.
