‘Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.’ 1 Timothy 1:17
The Gospel Through the Ages 20 “As has been pointed out, at the great council in heaven, “when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy,” Jesus Christ was foreordained to be the Savior of the world. Thereupon the Eternal Father bestowed upon His Beloved Son His divine power (Priesthood), in order that Jesus might in a valid way perform the works of the Redeemer and Mediator of the everlasting covenant and in the fullest degree be the Christ, the Savior of humanity. God honored the Only Begotten Son by naming this power “the Holy Priesthood after the order of the Son of God”. — Milton R. Hunter, 1945 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 10:324-325; “We believe that Jesus was foreordained before the foundations of the world were built, and his mission was appointed him in eternity to be the Savior of the world, yet when he came in the flesh he was left free to choose or refuse to obey his Father. Had he refused to obey his Father, he would have become a son of perdition.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 31, 1864

Excerpts of Wilford Woodruff’s Journal, pg 55; “July 27, 1851, Sermon on Sunday: Sunday I attended meeting. We had a good day. Brother Kimball addressed the meeting a part of the day. Among other remarks he said Jesus Christ was the first born of the Father and He was the candidate and elected to redeem the world. Lucifer sat up as a candidate to run against Jesus Christ, but he was overcome and thrust down to Hell with all that followed him. And we will have no more division henceforth and forever in Israel. We will have but one candidate for office but no opposition. All will be elected and proven. If a person is qualified to fill a greater station than he holds, he will have a chance.” – Wilford Woodruff

Resurrection
Ensign, “The Resurrection of Jesus Christ”, April 1985; “Our belief is, and we so testify, that Jesus not only conquered death for himself and brought forth his own glorious resurrected body, but that in so doing he also brought about a universal resurrection. This was the end and purpose of the mission for which he was set apart and ordained in the great council in heaven, when he was chosen to be our Savior and Redeemer.” – Marion Romney

Joseph Smith’s Importance to Man
Journal of Discourses 7:290; “You will be thankful, every one of you, that Joseph Smith, junior, was ordained to this great calling before the worlds were…The Lord had his eye upon him, and upon his father, and upon his father’s father, and upon their progenitors clear back to Abraham…He has watched that family and that blood as it has circulated from its fountain to the birth of that man. He was foreordained in eternity to preside over this last dispensation, as much so as Pharaoh was fore-ordained to be a wicked man, or as was Jesus to be the Saviour of the world because he was the oldest son in the family.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 9, 1859

Jesus
“We affirm, on the authority of Holy Scripture, that the Being who is known among men as Jesus of Nazareth, and by all who acknowledge His Godhood as Jesus the Christ, existed with the Father prior to birth in the flesh; and that in the preexistent state He was chosen and ordained to be the one and only Savior and Redeemer of the human race.” Jesus the Christ, pg. 6 by James E. Talmage.
