Atonement for Sin

This is what breaks our hearts here at the ministry.  One character marker we see time and again with the Mormon people is anger.  Dr. Walter Martin once said that the lies piled upon the soul of the Mormon people cause frustration and anger.  They’re usually argumentative and have been trained to provoke the anger in you to take away their guilt.  This gives them a reason to verbally attack.

Pray for them.

The following example taken from Doctrines of Salvation is a good example of how the Church confuses its members and obviously causes quite the dilemma.

Joseph Fielding Smith, Sr.  1838-1918

Joseph Fielding Smith, Sr. was the son of Hyrum Smith and nephew of Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the Mormon Church.

Journal of Discourses 20:27; “A man that is not honest in his heart, who does not desire to be just and impartial, even as God is just and impartial, has no business in plural marriage; and before he enters into the practice of that principle he needs to repent, to learn wisdom to get the Spirit of God, to get understanding in relation to the purpose God has in view in regard to this principle; that he may go into the practice of it understandingly, that his heart and mind may be set upon practicing it in righteousness.” – Joseph F. THE TEMPLE OF GOD

As most of you are aware, my writings about the LDS Church often reflect the book in the Bible I am studying at the time.  Right now I am in an in-depth study on Paul’s first epistle to the new believers in Corinth.  Half way through my study for the day it became abundantly clear what I was to write this time for the website.  After walking with the Lord for more than twelve years now I’ve discovered there is no such thing as “coincidence”.

January 1 – We begin the year by reading about the end of Jesus’ life on earth.  John 19:30 simply says; “It is finished”. 

For the Christian this scripture comes as a comfort knowing nothing else needs to be done for our salvation.  Our Lord accomplished it all by giving His life as a ransom for ours.

To the Mormon the scripture has absolutely no significance other than Jesus’ earthly ministry was over with.  Ask them why He would have chosen those words to be His last.  Gospel Doctrine, pg. 449 – Joseph F. Smith
