Mormon Decisions 10Teachings of Presidents of the Church; Joseph F. Smith, pg 100; “The object of our earthly existence is that we may have a fulness of joy, and that we may become the sons and daughters of God, in the fullest sense of the word, being heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ, to be kings and priests unto God, to inherit glory, dominion, exaltation, thrones and every power and attribute developed and possessed by our Heavenly Father. This is the object of our being on this earth. In order to attain unto this exalted position, it is necessary that we go through this mortal experience, or probation, by which we may prove ourselves worthy, through the aid of our elder brother Jesus.”

salt lake mormon temple 2Doctrines of Salvation, 2:43; “In order to obtain the exaltation we must accept the gospel AND all its covenants; AND take upon us the obligations which the Lord has offered; and walk in the light and the understanding of the truth; AND ‘live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God’” – President Joseph Fielding Smith (emphasis mine)

salt lake mormon temple 2Improvement Era, Vol. 13, April 1910, No. 5, pg 70, Priesthood Quorum’s Table; “These are the authentic statements of the scriptures, ancient and modern, and it is best to rest with these, until the Lord shall see fit to give more light on the subject. whether the mortal bodies of man evolved in natural processes to present perfection, through the direction and power of God; whether the first parents of our generations, Adam and Eve, were transplanted from another sphere, with immortal tabernacles, which became corrupted through sin and the partaking of natural foods, in the process of time; whether they were born here in mortality, as other mortals have been, are questions not fully answered in the revealed word of God.” – Joseph F. Smith, Prophet

Children in Heaven Don’t Grow…Or Do They?

salt lake mormon temple 2Journal of Discourses 6:10; “A question may be asked—”Will mothers have their children in eternity?” Yes! yes! Mothers, you shall have your children; for they shall have eternal life; for their debt is paid. There is no damnation awaits them, for they are in the spirit. But as the child dies, so shall it rise from the dead, and be for ever living in the learning of God. It will never grow: it will still be the child, in the same precise form as it appeared before it died out of its mother’s arms, but possessing all the intelligence of a God. Children dwell in the mansions of glory and exercise power, but appear in the same form as when on earth. Eternity is full of thrones, upon which dwell thousands of children reigning on thrones of glory, with not one cubit added to their stature.” – Joseph Smith, Jr., Nauvoo, Illinois, April 6, 1844

salt lake mormon temple 2Journal of Discourses 12:44, 46; “Notwithstanding, the disciples of Jesus, excepting John the Revelator, suffered ignominious deaths, they sowed the seed of the Gospel among, and conferred the Priesthood upon men, which remained for several generations upon the earth, but the time came when Paganism was engrafted into Christianity, and at last Christianity was converted into Paganism…

Brigham Young once said; “How easy it would be for your leaders to lead you to destruction, unless you actually know the mind and will of the Spirit yourselves. That is your privilege. And when you testify in this public congregation, or in your prayer meetings, testifying of the things of God that you know and understand, you are at liberty to speak freely upon those things which you believe.” – Journal of Discourses 4:368, Salt Lake City, June 28, 1857

And likewise his counterpart LDS prophet Joseph F. Smith said, “We talk of obedience, but do we require any man or woman to ignorantly obey the counsels that are given? Do the First Presidency require it? No, never.”Journal of Discourses 16:248, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1873

stickman thinking 3While doing research I came upon the quotes above which gave me pause…

I don’t recall receiving this type of reaction from anyone in the Church when I began openly questioning my heritage.  Do you?  As a matter of fact the more I openly questioned, the more I found myself being pushed away by teachers and fellow Mormons. The sad part about this scenario is that I’ve found I’m not alone.

I received another e-mail this morning from a brand new ex-Mormon Christian who will hopefully be sharing her testimony here soon!  PTL for her salvation!

Polygamy Most Important Doctrine

Journal of Discourses 21:9; “This doctrine of eternal union of husband and wife, and of plural marriage, is one of the most important doctrines ever revealed to man in any age of the world. Without it man would come to a full stop; without it we never could be exalted to associate with and become god…” –  Joseph F. Smith, Salt Lake City, December 7, 1879

Non-polygamists are Damned to Hell

Journal of Discourses 20:37; “I understand the law of celestial marriage to mean that every man in this Church, who has the ability to obey and practice it in righteousness and will not, shall be damned, I say I understand it to mean this and nothing less, and I testify in the name of Jesus that it does mean that.” – Joseph F. Smith, Salt Lake City, July 7, 1878

Atonement for Sin

This is what breaks our hearts here at the ministry.  One character marker we see time and again with the Mormon people is anger.  Dr. Walter Martin once said that the lies piled upon the soul of the Mormon people cause frustration and anger.  They’re usually argumentative and have been trained to provoke the anger in you to take away their guilt.  This gives them a reason to verbally attack.

Pray for them.

The following example taken from Doctrines of Salvation is a good example of how the Church confuses its members and obviously causes quite the dilemma.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders 6

Joseph Fielding Smith, Sr.  1838-1918

Joseph Fielding Smith, Sr. was the son of Hyrum Smith and nephew of Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the Mormon Church.

Journal of Discourses 20:27; “A man that is not honest in his heart, who does not desire to be just and impartial, even as God is just and impartial, has no business in plural marriage; and before he enters into the practice of that principle he needs to repent, to learn wisdom to get the Spirit of God, to get understanding in relation to the purpose God has in view in regard to this principle; that he may go into the practice of it understandingly, that his heart and mind may be set upon practicing it in righteousness.” – Joseph F. Smith, July 7, 1878, Salt Lake City

THE TEMPLE OF GOD

October 2005

As most of you are aware, my writings about the LDS Church often reflect the book in the Bible I am studying at the time.  Right now I am in an in-depth study on Paul’s first epistle to the new believers in Corinth.  Half way through my study for the day it became abundantly clear what I was to write this time for the website.  After walking with the Lord for more than twelve years now I’ve discovered there is no such thing as “coincidence”.

January 1 – We begin the year by reading about the end of Jesus’ life on earth.  John 19:30 simply says; “It is finished”.

For the Christian this scripture comes as a comfort knowing nothing else needs to be done for our salvation.  Our Lord accomplished it all by giving His life as a ransom for ours.

To the Mormon the scripture has absolutely no significance other than Jesus’ earthly ministry was over with.  Ask them why He would have chosen those words to be His last.  Gospel Doctrine, pg. 449 – Joseph F. Smith
