What would be the lasting impression people would have of you after you’re gone? With General Conference wrapping up as I type this, I also wondered what some of the LDS prophets said to members at their last General Conference talks.

JoDFor the first eighteen years of life I embraced my Mormon religious conviction with unabated loyalty. Shelving questions about the faith, I held tightly to the ideology while parroting the all-too popular belief ‘I’ll find out when I get there’.

That was until.

After I left Mormonism, and began working with Ed Decker, I brought home an entire set of Journal of Discourses Ed had given to me. I started at the beginning with the first volume and began reading.

Follow the ProphetA distinguishing mark of the LDS Church is the teaching members must follow, and obey their prophets. This subject matter is one of the reasons I left Mormonism. I began questioning the prophets in 1978 when the Church changed its mind on the race issue. Not being able to question the reasons why, or even ask in-depth questions in Seminary got me into a fair amount of trouble.

Are You Trusting Your Prophet?

Mormon Decisions 10When I became a Christian I learned in God’s word to trust in Him and His word and not fallible mankind. I also learned it’s okay and even encouraged to verify what people say is truth to ensure you’re not tricked into believing a lie.

Ask your Mormon loved ones if they trust in their prophet and tell them you’ve read 2 Nephi 28:31;

“Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
