Missionaries
Journal of Discourses 7:227; “We have at times sent men on missions to get rid of them; but they have generally come back. Some think it is an imposition upon the world to send such men among them. But which is best—to keep them here to pollute others, or to send them where pollution is more prevalent?…We have tried to turn the filthy ones out of the flock, but they will not always stay out. A few such defile, to outward appearance, the whole flock; and we have it to bear.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, April 7, 1860
3 John 1:11; “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.”
Who thinks this way? While we’re all sinners, as Christians we want to shy away from such thinking. Why wouldn’t you correct those who aren’t conforming to Jesus’ teachings and why would you send them out on missions representing your organization?
Unbelievable.
I would think that the LDS would have made changes in their later works on this kind of thing. Apalling, to say the least.
Not only would they send them on missions to get rid of them because they were not conforming to LDS teachings, they would send the young men out so that the young ladies of the congregation could get “swept up” by the older men within the heirarchy of the presidency, the 12, and the 70’s (They have a group of 12 men supposedly representing the 12 disciples and a group of 70 men representing the group of 70 men that were sent out by Jesus in the New Testament).
Cherrie and I got our copy of LaVonne Earl’s book, “Loved Into The Light” yesterday. I just started Chapter 1 last night and I am really enjoying it, I recommend the book to all who are interested in the fallacies of the Mormon church or anyone caught up in legalism or false doctrines.
