Pride in Being a Mormon
Discourses of Brigham Young, pg 30; “Take a pride in acknowledging the Savior. Train and educate yourselves until you will take a pride in acknowledging God, the Author of all. Take a pride in the religion that makes you pure and holy, and that produces in the heart of every individual who embraces it a feeling to be truthful in every word he speaks, to be honest in every act he performs, in all his dealings with his neighbors. Take a pride in this and fear not the wicked. 12:326”
Matthew 6:21; “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
I know from my own prideful past the “pride” I held in my heart because I was born into the Church. Now that I’m saved I refer to it as conceit and a heavy dose of a superiority complex.
I can’t say now that I’m saved I’ve ever felt pride in being a Christian and from what I’ve experienced the longer I am a Christian, the greater my awe.
Oswald Chambers once said to become one with Jesus we must be willing to not only give up sin but to surrender our way of looking at things. Once we’ve done that “God shows us what to surrender next”. Then and only then we will see the “horror of our sin”, claims to self and our prideful heart. After you’ve done this “the Lord equips us to do what He requires” of us.
Galatians 2:20-21 gives us a beautiful pictorial of what we must do and it’s only when we’re willing to really follow Him that we can say “I’ve been crucified with Christ”.
And if we want to please Him having pride in our heart takes up space. It’s space no longer available for Him as we’ve set our minds upon something we deem valuable here on earth and not on Him above. When this happens we know it’s time to de-clutter!
Psalm 138:6; “Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.”
