Temple Garments Protect Members
Letter of the First Presidency, October 10, 1988; “The promise of protection and blessings is conditional upon worthiness and faithfulness in keeping the covenant. Members of the Church wear the garment as a reminder of the scared covenants they have made with the Lord and also as a protection against temptation and evil. How it is worn is an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow the Savior.”
Mortal Messiah 2:294; “From the beginning the garments of the saints have enjoyed a special and sacred place in true worship. They cover that nakedness which when exposed leads to lewd and lascivious conduct. They stand as a symbol of modesty and decency and are a constant reminder to true believers of the restraints and controls placed by a divine providence upon their acts.”
Isaiah 61:10; “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”
Acts 1:8 tells us that when the Holy Spirit comes He gives us power and Romans 8:26 tells us the HS helps us in our weakness and because He lives in the believer He intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
With all that, how could a piece of clothing provide for you in the things God has already taken care of? The Church has systematically lied to its inherents by tricking them into believing a piece of cloth is better than God.
The job of the HS is to bring to remembrance the things God wants for you to know. Jn 14:26
The fruit of the HS is love, peace, joy, etc (Gal 5:22) which is a sign for those around you that God is changing you and rules in your life.
The mark of the HS is your inner peace that He so graciously endowed you with when you accepted Him into your heart. 2 Cor 3:17
The power of the HS in you is greater than the white piece of clothing that adorns your body. 1 Jn 4:4.
The Church has taken bits and pieces from a verse in Isaiah (which by the way they don’t trust) and inserted that into their new teaching.
The garment of salvation in Isaiah is a great study when you look at the Hebrew meaning of the term!
The word salvation in Hebrew is yeòsha and it means liberty, deliverance, prosperity, safety, salvation or saving.
If garments save you then why believe in Jesus and why do you have to be a Mormon? The idea of an object having supernatural powers to protect and deliver is reminiscent of the talisman Joe Smith always kept in his pocket, which by the way is a form of idolatry.
If you continue reading on you’ll see in verse 11 that it’s God who causes and brings forth the righteousness, thus negating any nothing temple garments, not to mention you, have anything to do with your own righteousness or salvation!
