Nephi & the Apostle Paul
2 Nephi 9:39; “…Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.”
Romans 8:6; “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
2nd Nephi supposedly took place circa 559 BC.
Paul wrote Romans circa 55 AD. We know that it was about this time because we can look in a history book and see that Erastus (mentioned in Ro. 16:23) was the city’s commissioner for public works and city treasurer. We also know Phoebe was a deacon at that time in Cenchreae, a port near Corinth.
We also know Paul probably wrote this while in Roman controlled Corinth while staying at Gaius’ home. All these things are historically trustworthy and can be verified through written records independent of the Bible as well as the Bible itself.
It can also be known Paul wrote it at this time because he was about to go to Jerusalem again – making this his second visit to Greece which was during the winter.
Have you noticed the specifics we’re given in the Bible? Compare these things with what we see in the Book of Mormon.
How could Nephi possibly have the knowledge to use the phrase “spiritually minded” some 600 years or so before Paul wrote it? And why was Nephi using Greek phraseology two hundred years before it came into being?
The word spiritually minded is a New Testament phrase. The Greek word spiritually is pneuma meaning a breeze or breath, as in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wasn’t given to man until Acts 1:8 which took place after Jesus’ resurrection.
Nephi was supposedly writing in Reformed Egyptian which is sketchy as well. God forbade the participation of anything Egyptian to be in the life of the Israelites. Furthermore, no reputable non-LDS Egyptologist has ever vouched for the legitimacy of Reformed Egyptian.
