1 Nephi 14:10; “And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.”
As the world watched the chimney at the Sistine Chapel puff out its white smoke signaling Catholics worldwide had a new pope, the LDS Church responded with a congratulatory smoke signal of their own.
It seemed the church bells were still echoing through St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City when the First Presidency of the LDS Church issued a statement expressing their support of the pope.
Isn’t it odd the Mormon Church would go out of its way to send warm wishes to the organization they refer to as the great whore of the earth? How sincere are their warm wishes when LDS scriptures still denounce Catholicism and the LDS Church’s entire reason for being is encapsulated in Joseph Smith’s words that no one was following God?
Joseph Smith’s Testimony 1:19; “I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
And lastly, why did they refer to this man as His Holiness? This is in reference to the title “Holy Father” also used by Catholics when referring to the pope. Jesus told us there is only one that is holy and also not to call anyone our father except for He Who is in heaven. Why would they acknowledge this man in this way?
Matthew 23:9; “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
Statement from the LDS Church:
“Following the announcement Wednesday that the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina had been selected as the new pope, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement expressing support:
“On behalf of the leadership and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we extend our warmest wishes to His Holiness Pope Francis and pray he will feel the peace of the Lord as he serves as pontiff of the Catholic Church.
“We have been honored and pleased as our two faiths have worked together on issues of faith, morality and service to the poor and needy. We value the relationships that have been formed in these joint efforts and are grateful for the good that has been accomplished.
We look forward to pursuing together, as the Apostle Paul wrote, all things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.”
