The First Presidency Offers a Message of Goodwill to Pope Leo XIV
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement on Thursday, May 8, 2025:
“On behalf of the leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we extend heartfelt prayers and greetings to Pope Leo XIV. This significant moment in time for the Catholic Church is a reminder of the enduring importance of faith to people everywhere.
“As fellow followers of Jesus Christ, we look forward to continued opportunities to work together to bless the lives of God’s children everywhere. May we strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ to care for the poor and needy, become peacemakers and create a world where faith and goodness can flourish.”

The Church’s announcement of sending a message of good will wasn’t all that surprising with the installment of the latest Catholic pope.
What was sad about their comment is when they referred to themselves and Catholics as ‘fellow followers of Jesus Christ’.
We wrote about this in 2013 when the last pope came on the scene. Today we’re wondering why they felt compelled to even acknowledge the new pope considering they have a book (BoM) that derails Catholicism. How can you be a peacemaker with something like the BoM?
Moreover, I’ve never heard of a Christian organization who would congratulate a new pope.
Please pray for Mormons to question why the Church would refer to Catholics in this way!
