“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

A cursory glance at the topics of the October 2023 General Conference seemed rather mundane at first glance. They kept saying their main theme was on the Holy Ghost, however, this was only partly true.

Their main agenda seemed to zero in on being temple worthy and to be worthy enough you have to pay 10% of your income. They used the word tithe and its derivatives 61 times. Any hint at what God’s Holy Spirit might be able to do for you was overshadowed by the panhandling ways of the Church. (more…)

Church News, ‘Think Celestial’, 1 October 2023 “Mortality is a master class in learning to choose the things of greatest eternal importance. …

Put Jesus Christ first, because eternal life is dependent on faith in Him and His Atonement.

The deceptions from the adversary will not end. Seek guidance from trusted voices. …

Thinking celestial will help build faith, as does living a virtuous life and spending time in the temple.” — Russell M. Nelson (more…)

Church News, ‘Our Constant Companion’, 1 Oct 2023 “Individuals can be taught by and learn from the Spirit line upon line, receiving what is needed until ready for more.

“We need the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. We desire it, yet we know from experience that it is not easy to achieve. We each think, say and do things in our daily lives that can offend the Spirit.” When that happens, remember the promise offered in the sacrament prayers. …

For those who are having a difficult time feeling the Holy Ghost: “Ponder whether there is anything for which you might repent and receive forgiveness.” — Henry B. Eyring (more…)

‘He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.’ 1 John 2:9

Church News, ‘Brothers and Sisters in Christ’, 30 September 2023 “The world is polarized by strong divisions that can influence an individual’s way of thinking, acting and speaking of other cultures, races and ethnicities as inferior, generating attitudes of contempt, indifference, disrespect and prejudice. “There is no place for prejudiced thoughts or actions in the community of Saints.”

“May we align our hearts and minds with the knowledge and testimony that we are all equal before God, that we are all fully endowed with the same eternal potential and inheritance. May we enjoy more the spiritual kinship that exists between us and value the different attributes and varied gifts we all have…” — Ulisses Soares (more…)

Church News, ‘A Voice of Gladness’, April 2023 “Temples bring joy to those who participate in ordinances and make covenants in them. Temple gifts include priesthood authority, families sealed forever and eternal life. These blessings are made possible through Jesus Christ’s Atonement. … On this Palm Sunday, praise God and His goodness. “What do we hear in the gospel which we have received? Truly a voice of gladness.”” — Kevin Duncan (more…)

Church News, ‘Hope in Christ’, April 2021 “The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have counseled together in a spirit of prayer and with a yearning to understand how to help all who feel alone or feel they don’t belong. We long to help all who feel this way. Let me mention, in particular, those who are currently single.

Brothers and sisters, more than half of adults in the Church today are widowed, divorced, or not yet married. Some wonder about their opportunities and place in God’s plan and in the Church. We should understand that eternal life is not simply a question of current marital status but of discipleship and being “valiant in the testimony of Jesus.”8 …

For many years, we have talked about “young single adults,” “single adults,” and “adults.” Those designations can be administratively helpful at times but can inadvertently change how we perceive others.

Is there a way to avoid this human tendency that can separate us from one another? … Let us call upon our members who are single to serve, lift, and teach. Disregard old notions and ideas that have sometimes unintentionally contributed to their feelings of loneliness and that they do not belong or cannot serve.” — M. Russell Ballard (more…)

“Any of us who has prejudice toward another race needs to repent!”

Those words came from a statement published in the LDS Church News earlier this week. The Mormon prophet’s impassioned plea for peace, and repentance, hides itself in the shadows of history, not to mention their beloved canon; the Book of Mormon.

Their concern about racism falls way short, even by Mr. Russell’s own standards. Today we’re waiting for any sign of repentance from the Church for teaching the blasphemous theology they hold so dear. (more…)
