Mosiah 18:13; “And when he had said these words, the Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he said: Helam, I baptize thee, having authority from the Almighty God, as a testimony that ye have entered into a covenant to serve him until you are dead as to the mortal body; and may the Spirit of the Lord be poured out upon you; and may he grant unto you eternal life, through the redemption of Christ, whom he has prepared from the foundation of the world.”
It’s BC 158 and they’re being baptized into Christ?
How is someone baptized into Christ before Christ was born?
Galatians 3:27 tells us that we’re baptized into Christ when we’re Christians and it’s safe to say no historical evidence has ever been discovered proving that people in Mesoamerica in the BC era was practicing Christianity.
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
The word “into” is a preposition indicating a change in relationship. The only way you can get “into” Christ or “into” a covenant relationship with someone, i.e. Jesus, is by changing the way you live.
You can’t obey the Law and be baptized into Christ. While this particular verse in the BoM doesn’t say anything about the Law there are plenty of other examples in its text indicating they do.
