Reed Smoot Case, Vol. 1, pg 9; ““At the Sanpete Stake Conference, September, 1889, George Q. Cannon, first counselor to President Snow, states:
“The people of the world do not believe in breeding, but we do. So the people of the world will die out and we will fill the whole earth. I admit that those raising children by plural wives are not complying with man made laws, but in the sight of God they are not sinning, as there is no sin in it.””
There is sin in multiplying wives to yourself as God tells us in Deuteronomy 18:18 and there’s sin in breaking the laws of the land, i.e. Edmunds Tucker Act and there’s also sin by contradicting your own teachings, i.e. Articles of Faith 1.12.
With all that aside, there’s a worst sin that’s been committed not mentioned here. That’s the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit by denying God. Not only did this group of people deny the New and Everlasting Covenant that God provided through the death of His Son, they’ve changed the meaning of this phrase. Now they’ve tricked people into believing the new and everlasting covenant is that of polygamy – D&C 132.
Let’s compare –
Jeremiah 32:40; “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.”
Mark 14:24; “And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.”
D&C 132:1-21; “And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—…
20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.
21 Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory.”
