Fig Aprons & Hiding from God
Let’s take a look at what happened in the Garden of Eden at the moment Adam and Eve sinned.
Genesis 3:7-8, 14, 21; “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
Let’s see…they sinned and immediately covered themselves with fig leaves and hid from God. Now think about this. If you were to meet them in person, say on the streets of Salt Lake or the hometown where you live, wouldn’t you steer clear of anyone hiding from God?
Do you hide from God?
Why are Mormons wearing the same regalia in the most holy of places (LDS temples) that Adam and Eve threw together because of shame? Are you shamed in the temple?
God rejected their makeshift outfits and kicked them out of the Garden of Eden, but before He did all that He cursed them! Cursed! How is being cursed by God a blessing and something to emulate in your sacred ceremonies?
Let’s take a look at that ceremony –
ADAM: What is that apron you have on?
LUCIFER: It is an emblem of my power and priesthoods.
ADAM: Priesthoods?
LUCIFER: Yes, priesthoods…
LUCIFER: See–you are naked. Take some fig leaves and make you aprons. Father will see your nakedness. Quick! Hide!
[Lucifer withdraws from view.]
ADAM: Brethren and sisters, put on your aprons.
[He waits until they have done so.]
[To Eve.] Come, let us hide.
The aprons represent two things.
1. Lucifer’s power.
2. Sin.
Why would you engage in this behavior? You can read the ceremony in full here.
