Receiving the Holy Ghost Again and Again and Again…
Ensign, “True Friends”, May 2002, pg 26; “The words of confirmation into the Church are an invitation: “Receive the Holy Ghost.” And that choice must be made not once, but every day, every hour, every minute. Even when the Holy Ghost comes and inspires them what they should do, doing it or not is a choice. Even when they read the scriptures regularly, it takes a choice to “feast upon the words of Christ.” And even the feast is not nourishing without a choice to do what the words of Christ tell them to do. With faith and obedience practiced long enough, the Holy Ghost becomes a constant companion, our natures change, and endurance becomes certain.” – Apostle Henry B. Eyring
John 14:16-18, 23; “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever. 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
This man’s teachings are the complete opposite of what Jesus taught! Notice the key words Jesus used in this passage;
Forever
Dwelleth with you
Shall be in you
Will not leave you
I will come to you
My Father will love him
We will come unto him
Make Our abode with him
The word abode in vs 23 means to tarry. Can you imagine? Jesus wants to tarry, meaning He’s in no rush to leave. Have you ever had a guest visit that seems to have all the time in the world and isn’t concerned about anything except you? That’s the sense this word/phrase is used in. He has no sense of rushing or hurrying.
The Mormon Holy Ghost has a laundry list of must do’s and have to’s in order to be a help for those seeking comfort. Reading scripture brings comfort yes, but not when it’s a requirement.
Why would you have to do this every day?
Does the Mormon Holy Ghost forget he has to stay so you have to keep reminding him?
Sadly, Mormons don’t teach that the words of God are nourishing. What’s not nourishing is when I have to keep searching for the next thing I have to do so I can perform another task to get saved.
