Journal of Discourses 4:41; “If I were to forsake this kingdom, the car of righteousness would roll over and crush me into insignificance; and so it will every other man that gets out of the right path.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, August 31, 1856
Romans 12:19; “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
Brigham’s threats were constant, unwarranted, unfounded and unbiblical. Why is he threatening people to behave or else; isn’t it God’s job to repay?
If righteousness means obedience then what happened to Galatians 5:22-23 that says there is no law against the fruits of the Spirit?
Are Brigham’s words the manifestation of the fruits of the Spirit? His display of intolerance isn’t how our Lord operates! He’s patient, He waits for us to repent and when we do the Holy Spirit takes up residence & our behavior doesn’t reflect the anger like we see here in Brigham’s words.
