Quest for Refuge, p 165; “I shall have a son born to me, and his name shall be David; and on him, in some future time, will rest the responsibility that now rests upon me. (Unpublished sermon of Brigham Young, 7 Oct. 1863, Young papers.)” – Marvin S. Hill
Words of Joseph Smith, p 331; “A murderer; for instance one that sheds innocent Blood Cannot have forgiveness, David sought repentance at the hand of God Carefully with tears, but he could ownly get it through Hell, he got a promise that his soul should not be left in Hell, Although David was a King he never did obtain the spirit & power of Elijah & the fulness of the Priesthood, & the priesthood that he received & the throne & kingdom of David is to be taken from him & given to another by the name of David in the last days, raised up out of his linage.” [sic]
Isaiah 55:3-5; “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. 4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. 5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.”
Well this obviously turned out to be another false prophecy courtesy of Joseph Smith. His son David who was born about four months after his death ended up not following in his father’s footsteps and sadly spent a great deal of time (27 yrs) being confined in the Illinois Hospital for the Insane where he eventually died in 1904.
In a sermon Brigham Young gave in 1863 he alluded to the time Smith prophesied that his unborn son would rise up and take control over the kingdom of God. Part of what Smith said can be found in the Words of Joseph Smith mentioned above, but through heavy editing on the part of the Church the entire prophecy has been shrouded in secrecy.
God complex.
Amen to that!
