Ensign, ‘Teaching and Learning by the Spirit,’ March 1997, p 16; “Just as Kolob is the source of light for other stars and planets (see Facsimile 2, fig. 5), Jesus Christ is the source of light for the immensity of space, including the sun, moon, stars, and earth (D&C 88:5–13).” – Dallin Oaks
Deuteronomy 4:15-19; “Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.”
I’ve always been fascinated how I can turn to the Bible and find God telling me the exact opposite of what I learned as a Mormon. Today’s LDS reference is a good example of this.
We should never use what God has created as examples or comparisons of God. Doing such things is dancing dangerously close to the fires of idol worship.
There is nothing we can compare God to no matter what the circumstance might be. The LDS reference today is proof of how people can mislead others, twist scripture, and flat out lie about Jesus and who He is. Mr. Oaks is saying that Jesus is the effect and not the cause of what we behold in nature.
This article he wrote also said ‘If we teach and learn in the manner the Lord has prescribed, he will send his Spirit to edify and enlighten us as we do so’.
??????
The tail is wagging the dog here…
We can’t properly teach or even learn without His Spirit so by what power are they performing these things if His Spirit isn’t already in attendance?
