We gathered a few quotes from the General Conference the LDS Church held this past weekend and wanted to share what we thought were the most newsworthy with you!
Later this week I’ll be publishing an article on an e-mail I received from a dear Christian friend who actually watched the Saturday morning session. She wrote to give me her insights on the main points she picked out. I highly value the insight of those who’ve never been Mormon and like to include their biblical wisdom with Mormons to provide a different perspective.
So – if you’re a Christian and would like to write in to share your thoughts about the General Conferences (or anything else Mormon related), please let us know and we’ll be sure to put your writings up on the site and blog. Thanks in advance and God bless!
Okay, now on with the quotes from the April 2015 General Conference. I’m only including three speakers on this one so if you want further info on other speakers and topics be sure you click on the link provided to retrieve the info you’re looking for!
I retrieved the info for the first quote from the LDS News & Announcements page and the other two came from the LDS website General Conference at a Glance. I’ve listed a few questions that came to mind for each of the three speakers highlighted here.
April 2015 General Conference News and Announcements
Thomas S. Monson
“Invitations from the Prophet
During the Sunday morning session, President Monson bore testimony of the blessings of temple attendance: “As we go to the temple, as we remember the covenants we make there, we will be better able to overcome those temptations and to bear our trials. In the temple we can find peace.”
“May our Heavenly Father bless us that we may have the spirit of temple worship,” he said, “that we may be obedient to His commandments, and that we may follow carefully the steps of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
As we celebrate Easter, he concluded, “May we offer prayers of gratitude for His great and marvelous gifts to us.”
Truth:
1.If 1 John 4:4 says ‘…greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world’, then what is this power Mr. Monson is speaking of? How can someone overcome anything by remembering the past works they’ve performed?
2.Jesus said He leaves us with peace (John 14:27) so how can temple works do this?
3.What exactly is the ‘spirit of temple worship’?
4.The Bible says a man cannot serve both God and man because it causes division. In light of this why would you want any spirit inside of you except for God’s Holy Spirit? Jesus said the Holy Spirit will be inside the believer (John 14:17).
5.Specifically, what gifts did the Mormon god give to the Mormon people?
Elder Jorge F. Zeballos
“If You Will Be Responsible
What responsibility do we have as members of the Church of Jesus Christ? President Joseph Fielding Smith expressed it as follows: “We have these two great responsibilities. … First, to seek our own salvation; and, second, our duty to our fellow men” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Fielding Smith [2013], 294).
These, then, are the main responsibilities that our Father has assigned to us: seeking our own salvation and that of others, with the understanding that salvation means reaching the highest degree of glory that our Father has provided for His obedient children. These responsibilities that have been entrusted to us—and which we have freely accepted—must define our priorities, our desires, our decisions, and our daily conduct…”
Truth:
In light of this man’s statement, what should a Mormon do about Jesus’ commandment in Matthew 22:36-40?
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
And last, but certainly not least, is the comment by Elder Joseph W. Sitati.
Elder Joseph W. Sitati
“Be Fruitful, Multiply, and Subdue the Earth
Our mortal journey began with both a divine charge and a blessing. A loving Father gave us the charge and the blessing to be fruitful and to multiply and to have dominion so that we can develop and become even as He is. …
First, God charged us to be fruitful. …
We become fruitful as we abide in Christ and as we “take upon [ourselves His] name [and] … serve him to the end” (D&C 20:37)…
Second, God charged us to multiply. …
… Bearing children gives other spirit children of God the opportunity to also enjoy life on earth. …
Third, God charged us to subdue the earth.
To subdue the earth and have dominion over every living thing is to control these things so they fulfill the will of God as they serve the purposes of His children. Subduing includes gaining mastery over our own bodies…”
Truth:
Even here and now in the 21st century, the Mormon Church is still beating the same drum. Giving birth is required for salvation. For those who ask me why I keep posting LDS doctrines from a bygone era, this man’s talk is my reason why. The Church has not, nor will it ever stop teaching this because as I’ve claimed in the past and continue to do so today; Mormonism is built upon two principles. Sex and godhood, and you can’t get one without the other.
Questions for Mr. Sitati –
Where in the Bible did God say we must give birth to be saved?
Where in the Bible does it say there are spirit babies waiting to be born?
We’ll address the other two items he mentioned at a later date, but for now, suffice it say, they didn’t miss a chance to spread more lies from their very big pulpit adorned with a loud microphone.
Pray with us! Pray that Mormons who heard these and other messages picked up on the false teachings and will compare them with what God says in His word.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
