Brigham Young University Fireside, “The Mystery of Godliness,” 6 January 1985; “6. Whence came the plan of salvation? It is simply the laws and ordinances by obedience to which men may gain eternal life and thus
become as God is and be gods in their own right. Joseph Smith said: “God himself, finding he was in the midst of spirits and glory, because he was more intelligent, saw proper to institute laws whereby the rest could have a privilege to advance like himself. . . . He has power to institute laws to instruct the weaker intelligences, that they may be exalted with himself, so that they might have one glory upon another, and all that knowledge, power, glory, and intelligence, which is requisite in order to save them in the world of spirits” (Teachings, p. 354).” – Bruce R. McConkie, Quorum of the Twelve
Romans 1:28; “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”
If God gave the Israelites over, think of what will happen to those who aren’t Israelites and do the same thing. Pau’s warning to his fellow Israelites should serve as a startling wake up call for us today!
This is another section of Mr. McConkie’s speech that we looked at yesterday. This guy was so outrageously blasphemous, we feel that it’s important enough to take a good look at what he had to say.
1.There is no other god besides the One True God of the Bible – Isaiah 43:10-11.
2.Stating ‘God found himself in the midst of other spirits’ and decided to institute laws because he was more intelligent is not only bizarre, but outrageously blasphemous.
3.If this god ‘found himself in the midst of spirits’, how did this god know he was more intelligent than all the others? Was it just a hunch, or did he have definitive proof?
4.If this god created everything, why did he suddenly discover he was in the midst of glory? Didn’t he create the glory?
“God found Himself????” Lord, please open the eyes of Mormons.
