Alma 18:9; “And they said unto him: Behold, he is feeding thy horses. Now the king had commanded his servants, previous to the time of the watering
of their flocks, that they should prepare his horses and chariots, and conduct him forth to the land of Nephi; for there had been a great feast appointed at the land of Nephi, by the father of Lamoni, who was king over all the land.”
Proverbs 26:23-28; “Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. 24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; 25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. 26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. 27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. 28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.”
We’ve looked at the BoM problems many times because of the book’s value in the life of every Mormon. Make no mistake my friend, this book is as important to them as the Bible is to the Christian.
I came across a magazine article by the Smithsonian that I’ll be adding to the article I wrote years before, but thought I’d share some of what they said here. They were highlighting the invention of the wheel. I know, I know, it sounds silly, but simple things in life amuse me.
I can’t stop thinking about the significance of all the evidence they’ve found that categorically strips the lies right off the Book of Mormon’s façade.
The following info on chariots comes from the online version of Smithsonian Magazine. It’s interesting how they noted wheels weren’t used for transportation until 300 years after the time they were using them as a pottery wheel! Some things in life never change…man is a little slow sometimes!
It goes along with the archaeological evidences found on the American Continent. Wheels were put on children’s toys, but weren’t introduced for transportation until the Europeans got here.
Smithsonian.com, ‘A Salute to the Wheel’;“The first wheels were not used for transportation. Evidence indicates they were created to serve as potter’s wheels around 3500 B.C. in Mesopotamia—300 years before someone figured out to use them for chariots…The earliest wheels in North America were used for toys.
In the 1940s, archaeologists unearthed wheeled toys—ceramic dogs and other animals with wheels as legs—in pre-Colombian layers of sediment in Vera Cruz, Mexico. The indigenous peoples of North America, however, would not use wheels for transportation until the arrival of European settlers.” Data retrieved 6/17/2015
Aside from all the evidence and most importantly, the thought of what God’s word says about people like Smith lays heavy on my spirit as I think about the audacity of what he’s done. My heart grieves for these people and yet we know He can save! Romans 10:13
The Lord’s word is truer than anyone could know. Everywhere we look, there’s another caveat of basic common sense providing us with assurance, and even protection for our everyday life. Today’s biblical passage is just such an example. I wonder if the Mormon people have ever thought of this.
People who lie to you don’t care about you or they wouldn’t lie. Right? So has the average Mormon (meaning those like my mother) ever thought about whether or not Mormon leaders really care for them? If so, how do their words outweigh God’s constant, unchanging message?
