Conference Report, April 1910, Afternoon Session, p. 92; “You can all do something. You owe it to your God. Some day we have got to give an account for every idle word spoken, and for all our acts upon the earth. We must do our share in preaching this Gospel of Jesus Christ, because we know it is true…
…if you want a portion of this earth and the fulness thereof, you will have it by being true to your covenants, this will be your future inheritance—this earth and the fulness thereof will sometime be given to the Saints of the most high God, and they will possess it forever and forever. If you keep the faith, eternal heaven will be this globe from which your bodies were made, and it will be your Kolob forever and forever.
May God bless this work; may God bless the prophets, seers, and revelators who rule over it. May we always love them, and let the world know that we do love them, and not be ashamed of it. I would rather take the counsel and advice of President Joseph F. Smith than that of any man on this earth; and if some people don’t like it, they can lump it. (Laughter.) Amen.” – Elder Ben E. Rich
Ephesians 4:14; “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”.
Today we’re taking a look at some of the key elements in Mr. Rich’s sermon here. When I saw the phrase he used (…it will be your Kolob forever…), I wasn’t sure if it was an off handed comment made by someone mocking Mormons, or if this was for real. Much to my surprise the latter was true.
Let’s begin –
“You can all do something. You owe it to your God. Some day we have got to give an account for every idle word spoken, and for all our acts upon the earth. We must do our share in preaching this Gospel of Jesus Christ, because we know it is true…” …
‘You owe it to your God’?
Really? Why would you phrase a sentence in this manner? This seems odd and reveals there’s a detachment from the Lord. Furthermore, the Bible tells us that our works are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6
“…if you want a portion of this earth and the fulness thereof, you will have it by being true to your covenants, this will be your future inheritance—this earth and the fulness thereof will sometime be given to the Saints of the most high God, and they will possess it forever and forever. If you keep the faith, eternal heaven will be this globe from which your bodies were made, and it will be your Kolob forever and forever.”
Oh dear. This isn’t good at all.
Where in the Bible does it say we’ll inherit a portion of this earth?
Revelation 5:10 says we’ll reign on earth and Revelation 21 lists 7 new things we’ll see in the new heaven and new earth. Wherever did this man retrieve his info from?
‘…this globe from which your bodies were made…’ –
Hey, wait a minute here! Mormons don’t believe this! They believe Adam was transported from another planet. They also believe he was God. Which scenario would you choose?
If you believe our bodies came from this globe you’re conceding the Bible is correct.
If you’re LDS, do you refer to heaven as Kolob? When was the last time you told your kid ‘yes honey, God lives in Kolob’?
“May God bless this work; may God bless the prophets, seers, and revelators who rule over it. May we always love them, and let the world know that we do love them, and not be ashamed of it. I would rather take the counsel and advice of President Joseph F. Smith than that of any man on this earth; and if some people don’t like it, they can lump it. (Laughter.) Amen.” – Elder Ben E. Rich
Do the words of this man sound like someone who’s been chosen by God to be His representative?
