History of the Church 2:190; “Luke S. Johnson’s Blessing:—Our Father in heaven, look down in mercy upon us, and upon this Thy servant, whom we
ordain to the ministry of the Twelve. He shall be prepared and preserved, and be like those we have blessed before him. The nations shall tremble before him. He shall hear the voice of God; he shall comfort the hearts of the Saints always. The angels shall bear him up till he shall finish his ministry. He shall be delivered, and come forth with Israel. He shall bear testimony to the kings of the earth, and hold communion with the Father, with the Son, and with the general assembly and Church of the first-born. If cast into prison, he shall be able to comfort the hearts of his comrades. His tongue shall be loosed, and he shall have power to lead many to Zion, and sit down with them; the Ancient of Days shall pronounce this blessing, that he has been faithful; he shall have strength, wisdom, and power; he shall go among the covenant people and speak all their tongues where he shall go. All these blessings we confirm upon him in the name of Jesus. Amen.” – Sunday, February 15, 1835
Romans 16:17-18; “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
The passage in Romans is but one great example of what happened in Mormonism. People living during the ‘2nd Great Awakening’ were hungry for something, and starving for attention. The Revolutionary War was over, America had established herself as an independent nation, and the second generation of recipients of those who fought for freedom were looking for the next big thing. Religion and God took center stage in their quest for something new.
Being swept up in events of society, Joe Smith established a religious system that seemed to allay the quest people were on, but thinking someone could, or would intentionally trick them in the name of the Lord, wasn’t on the radar for many people. The Johnson family was a textbook case of how people were way too trusting of others at the time.
Luke Johnson was sixth apostle for God to be ordained in the LDS Church, but he, as well as other members of his family, became disenchanted with the Church. Less than three years after his ordination Mr. Johnson, and a handful of other Mormons, were summarily booted from the Church for the supposed attempt of a ‘coup d’état’.
History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2:528; “I returned to Kirtland on or about the 10th of December. During my absence in Missouri Warren Parrish, John F. Boynton, Luke S. Johnson, Joseph Coe, and some others united together for the overthrow of the Church. Soon after my return this dissenting band openly and publicly renounced the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints and claimed themselves to be the old standard, calling themselves the Church of Christ, excluding the word “Saints,” and set me at naught, and the whole Church, denouncing us as heretics, not considering that the Saints shall possess the kingdom according to the Prophet Daniel.” – December 10, 1837
Let’s look at some of the false prophecies handed out to this guy –
1.There’s no record of nations trembling in front of Luke Johnson because of the testimony he shared about the Mormon god.
2.There’s no record of Mr. Johnson bearing testimony to kings of the earth.
3.There’s no record of Luke speaking in many foreign tongues.
4.He wasn’t like the others who had been ordained apostles.
5.He didn’t comfort the hearts of the Saints ‘always’.
6.Mormon angels didn’t ‘bear him up’ until he finished his work for the Mormon god.
7.The ‘Ancient of Days’ certainly didn’t testify of Luke Johnson’s faithfulness.
Now what?
If you’re LDS, what are your thoughts about this scenario?
This was a pretty big deal considering it was supposed to be the first time God had spoken to creation in almost 2,000 years!
Why did this happen if God promised a restoration of all things?
