Ether 12:12, 27; “For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith. 27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”
1 Corinthians 1:27; “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty”.
2 Corinthians 12:9; “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Hebrews 2:4, 6; “God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? 6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?”
The LDS passages we’ve used today come from events in the Book of Mormon that supposedly took place circa BC 2,600-2,200. As it turned out, their BoM hero ‘Captain Moroni’ who lived circa 400 AD, added to the book written by Jared from 3,000 years earlier, making things a bit confusing at first glance.
Now this same Moroni thought it’d be a good idea to sum up the story of the Jardites who experienced catastrophic events of war leading to extinction. Strangely enough, the story line in Ether is eerily similar to what Moroni’s clan experienced as well. What are the odds?
The other strange coincidence in all this is how Moroni’s writings use part of the same phrases Paul used when writing to the church in Corinth 350 years earlier. We’ll forego the fact that Moroni was using Greek when this language was non-existent on the American continent at the time.
Not sure how Moroni got access to Paul’s writings since they didn’t know about the internet back then. Nor do we understand how Moroni knew to use the same phrases from the book of Hebrews.
All that aside, what we found most interesting is how this Moroni fellow twisted the teachings of God’s holy word, turning them on their proverbial head.
God never said He couldn’t do miracles unless men had faith. Hebrews tells us He performed miracles in spite of man’s behavioral problem. Furthermore, Hebrews 2:6 is the quintessential reminder that we must be ever grateful God would remember each man individually and be so moved as to provide for us in the manner He has.
