Fifth Annual Church Educational System Religious Educators’ Symposium, “The Mantle is
Far, Far Greater Than The Intellect,” 22 August, 1981; “There is a temptation for the writer or the teacher of Church history to want to tell everything, whether it is worthy or faith promoting or not. Some things that are true are not very useful.” – Boyd K. Packer
Doctrine and Covenants 84:45; “For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ.”
2 Corinthians 11:13-14; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
Many of us have personally known the dangers of being ensnared in a church whose leaders were filled with angels of light. As I was thinking upon Mr. Packer’s speech the other day, I wondered just how many other leaders of other churches have said the same thing he did.
I’ll never stop being amazed at how our dear sweet Jesus works! Even in the midst of false teachers, liars, angels of light, and the outright ne’er-do-well, Jesus will reach down and save anyone. I’m a prime example of that! If you have a loved one in Mormonism, never give up hope they’ll come to see the truth. Using references like those we’ve listed today can prompt them into critical thinking about the circumstance in Mormonism.
Five reasons Smith & friends were false teachers can be found in the LDS references today and they are…
1.If the word of the Lord is truth as Smith claimed, why pray tell, did he denounce it?
2.If something is true, why wouldn’t it be useful?
3.Not everything that is light is the Spirit of Christ. Smith’s statement is confusing.
4.Why would telling the truth be a temptation? Is telling the truth a sin?
5.Why do many of the teachings from LDS leaders contradict each other?
