Child of God
General Conference, ‘I Am a Child of God,’ Saturday Morning, April 2, 2016; “… A correct understanding of our heavenly heritage is essential to exaltation. It is foundational to comprehending the glorious plan of salvation and to nurturing faith in the firstborn of the Father, Jesus the Christ, and in His merciful Atonement. Further, it provides continual motivation for us to make and keep our indispensable eternal covenants. …” –Donald L. Hallstrom
John 1:12-13; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
A foundational belief in Mormonism is the idea men became sons of God through a two step process, if you will.
Firstly, the Mormon god and one of his wives spiritually begat all inhabitants of the earth through a sexual union.
“Intelligences were organized before the world was, and among these were many great and noble ones, such as Abraham and Moses. God stood in their midst, saw that they were good, and chose them for responsibilities on earth and throughout eternity (Abr. 3:21-23). Jesus, the firstborn spirit, was preeminent among them. “Jesus…existed with the Father prior to birth in the flesh; and…in the pre-existent state He was chosen and ordained to be the one and only Savior and Redeemer of the human race” (JC, p. 6).” Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 1124.
“The Apostle Paul told the Athenians on Mars’ Hill that “we are the offspring of God.”…The Lord has declared that “the spirit and the body are the soul of man.” It is the spirit which is the offspring of God…God Himself is a soul, composed of a spirit and of a body of flesh and bones, as tangible as man’s…The spirits of all men are literally His “begotten sons and daughters.”” Thomas S. Monson, An Invitation to Exaltation, pg. 3.
Once they had begotten all the people that would one day inhabit the earth, the second part of the Mormon god’s ‘plan of salvation’ takes place when mankind is begotten through the sexual union of a man and woman here on earth.
This, therefore, means everyone who’s ever lived, or will live in the future, are literally a child of God. This of course, means Jesus as well. Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt declared in his well known book, The Seer, that God Himself came down to earth and had relations with His daughter Mary to beget Jesus Christ, ‘the Only Begotten Son’.
The Seer, page 158; “There is no doubt that the Holy Ghost came upon Mary to sanctify her, and make her holy, and prepare her to endure the glorious presence of “the Highest’, that when ‘He’ should ‘overshadow’ her she might conceive, being filled with the Holy Ghost; hence the angel said, as recorded in Matthew, ‘That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost;’ that is, the Holy Ghost gave her strength to abide in the presence of the Father without being consumed, but it was the personage of the Father who begat the body of Jesus; and for this reason Jesus is called ‘the Only Begotten of the Father;’ that is, the only one in this world whose fleshly body was begotten by the Father…The fleshly body of Jesus required a Mother as well as a Father. Therefore, the Father and Mother of Jesus, according to the flesh, must have been associated together in the capacity of Husband and Wife; hence the Virgin Mary must have been, for the time being, the lawful wife of God the Father..”
Please, share the truth with the Mormon you know! There is no such thing as the God of the Bible sexually begetting spirits. The passage in John’s gospel is very clear and straightforward.
Most importantly, the dogma that God came down and had sex with Mary is blasphemous beyond description!
