2 Nephi 9:21 “And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.”
John 3:16-17; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
The Book of Mormon is rife with plagiarisms, anachronisms, and misinterpretations. There’s not been another book we know of that’s twisted the truth of God into a lie, as Joe Smith has done in his elaborate hoax. Today’s example from Second Nephi is just such a scenario.
As Melissa and I were talking about this verse, she wondered aloud what the phrase ‘every living creature’ really meant. Did it include animals?
We’re also wondering about the phrase ‘both men, women, and children’. Aren’t children part of the male and female group?
Furthermore, Mr. Smith’s edition of a new gospel sounds kind of like a perversion of Hebrews 4:15;
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Last, but not least, we’re wondering if the Mormon Jesus died for all the bad days we might incur. The text says, ‘he suffereth the pains of all men…’
God’s infallible word says Jesus came to earth to redeem us, and pay the price for our sins. As incredible as that is, it doesn’t say He came here to suffer for the pains inflicted upon us in life. We receive comfort from His Holy Spirit who indwells us after we’ve accepted God’s gift of His Son.
