New Era, ‘Onward Christian Soldiers,’ April 2017; “The men and women, who desire to obtain seats in the celestial kingdom, will find that they must battle every day.” – Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young [1997], 294”
Colossians 2:15; “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
Looking through the latest edition of the New Era Magazine we found a few problems in the Church’s latest ‘Mormonad’. We’re praying Christians will use it as a witnessing tool! Check out what they’ve done…
1.The Church’s use of Brigham Young’s statement is false because Jesus told us the battle is over!!!! He won!!! Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!!!! Christians don’t have to battle, they just need to believe and trust!
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
2.Why are they using a statement like this from Brigham’s time? He was referring to fighting against naysayers of polygamy, and the Christians of his day. The New Era Magazine is written for their youth group (ages 12-18). See Journal of Discourses 11:14 for more info.
3.We’re also wondering why they used the Christian hymn, ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’. A link for the lyrics of this song is listed below. Written in 1865, the hymn as you know, speaks to the cross! They’ve denounced the cross, and the Christians, so why would they use this other than to confuse, and mislead?
Why are they lying to the children?
Wow! What a tangled web we weave…
Onward, Christian Soldiers
By: Sabine Baring-GouldOnward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.
Christ, the royal master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle
See his banners go!
Mormons correctly deny that salvation is an event. We’re taught in the scriptures that it’s a journey and that one must endure to the end to be saved in the Kingdom of God. One may attain to a lesser glory as the atonement of Christ ensures that all are resurrected and (1 Cor. 15) to the glory he or she attains in this life. There are no lies in President Young’s statement — only in the false teaching that one may attain eternal life (Celestial Kingdom) by a 15-second prayer! Even children should know that makes no sense.
John, your comment breaks my heart. You truly do not understand what it means to be saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, do you?
It’s so much more than a 15-second prayer. It’s walking with the Lord, and having the Holy Spirit influence you daily. Not earn your salvation, but because you have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you.
Yes, once we repent and put our trust in Jesus for our salvation we are saved. It is a one time even!
Those who are truly walking with the Lord NEVER have to doubt their salvation, never have to wonder that if they died at that moment if their home was secure in Heaven.
Mormons always have to wonder if they’re doing enough to merit their salvation, and qualify for exaltation (godhood). What a sad way live. – Melissa Grimes
