A local news story here in the Seattle area got me to thinking about Joseph Smith the other day. In short, a 39 yr old man was arrested a few days ago for a handful of disgusting deeds, one of which is suspicion of kidnapping. (Keep in mind this suspect is also a convicted child molester.)

It’s no coincidence that a young girl from the Puget Sound is missing right now, and the last time she was seen is from a video surveillance tape where she’s seen with him. She’s a runaway, and sadly, she’s only 15 yrs old. To read more of the story, see KOMOTV.com.

While this ne-er-do-well guy here in Seattle isn’t the polygamist Joe Smith was, his age and the age of the girl he was grooming, have remarkable similarities.

That story, and an e-mail I received from Today in Mormon History, got me to thinking about Mr. Smith’s nefarious deeds. (more…)

1 Corinthians 15:29 “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?”

Our post today is to request prayer for a Mormon who believes people could have a change of mind about the gospel after death. A friend of Life After responded to our Facebook post on 5/29/2018, and shared the info listed below. You can read the article he responded to (Witnessing Tip No Second Chances), at link provided.

I’ve always been a staunch believer that by sharing quick biblical truths with a Mormon will build the road for them to find salvation. Inundating them with boatloads of info can be overwhelming, and the simplicity of God’s message can be lost in the fray.

Sharing small truths gives them something to think about in their alone time, and at some point they’ll either accept, or reject God’s free gift of salvation. (more…)

While putzin’ around looking for images to put in a post commemorating Memorial Day, it occurred to me I should mention some of the people in my personal life who’ve made a huge difference, and contributed to who I am today.

I had never stopped to count the number of men in my life who had served in the military, and each time I thought of someone, another person would come to mind. I’m certain I’m not the only one who can say this, and that’s what makes our country so awesome! Think of all those you personally know that’ve contributed to the freedom we now enjoy! (more…)

‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’ John 15:13

Today we’re taking a brief break from all things Mormon in order to bring attention to a few facts about the important holiday America is acknowledging this weekend: Memorial Day!

Throughout history, people have participated in yearly celebrations honoring deceased loved ones. As early as BC 431, ancient Greeks were bedecking graves in commemoration of those who died, along with military heroes of the day. America’s not alone in her dedications as we see countries all over the world doing the same.

Here are a few quick facts about Memorial Day, and the price America’s paid in the 243 years she’s been in existence – (more…)

Alma 17:36-39; “But Ammon stood forth and began to cast stones at them with his sling; yea, with mighty power he did sling stones amongst them; and thus he slew a certain number of them insomuch that they began to be astonished at his power; nevertheless they were angry because of the slain of their brethren, and they were determined that he should fall; therefore, seeing that they could not hit him with their stones, they came forth with clubs to slay him. 37 But behold, every man that lifted his club to smite Ammon, he smote off their arms with his sword; for he did withstand their blows by smiting their arms with the edge of his sword, insomuch that they began to be astonished, and began to flee before him; yea, and they were not few in number; and he caused them to flee by the strength of his arm. 38 Now six of them had fallen by the sling, but he slew none save it were their leader with his sword; and he smote off as many of their arms as were lifted against him, and they were not a few. 39 And when he had driven them afar off, he returned and they watered their flocks and returned them to the pasture of the king, and then went in unto the king, bearing the arms which had been smitten off by the sword of Ammon, of those who sought to slay him; and they were carried in unto the king for a testimony of the things which they had done.” (more…)

Today we’re looking at excerpts from a member of the early LDS Church; George Laub. He was a devoted follower, and his loyalty to Smith’s ideologies is unfortunately, all too apparent. You can find this excerpt at the link below, and also at George Laub’s Journal, Book of Abraham Project (BOAP), pp.16-17.

[Spelling as in original.]

The Words of Joseph Smith, p. 382; “George Laub Journal. The Scripture Say I and my father are one & again that the father son & holy ghost are one I John 5 ch. 7 vers But these three agree in the Same thing & did the Saviour pray to the father.

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 160; “Salvation cannot come without revelation; it is in vain for anyone to minister without it. No man is a minister of Jesus Christ without being a Prophet. No man can be a minister of Jesus Christ except he has the testimony of Jesus; and this is the spirit of prophecy. Whenever salvation has been administered, it has been by testimony. Men of the present time testify of heaven and hell, and have never seen either; and I will say that no man knows these things without this.” (more…)
