January 15 — Ashtoreth. Today ask the Mormon in your life for their opinion about their Heavenly Mother. Then ask if they’ve ever heard of Ashtoreth. Be sure you explain with demonstrative evidence (Bible and a dictionary) who this false goddess was, and why Israel was always in trouble for worshiping her. Without being judgmental towards them, ask if they see the correlation between their Heavenly Mother and Ashtoreth. To get a clear idea of who the Mormons believe she is, see our article ‘Heavenly Mother’.

Judges 2:13; “And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.” 1 Kings 11:5; “For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.”

Mormon Doctrine, p. 40 “Ashtoreth (Ashtaroth)…See BAAL (BAALIM), FALSE GODS. As Baal was the supreme male deity of the Phoenician and Canaanitish nations, so Ashtoreth (Ashtaroth) was their supreme female deity. She was the so-called goddess of love and fertility, whose licentious worship pleased Israel in her apostate periods…”
Answers to Gospel Questions 3:142 “The fact that there is no reference to a mother in heaven either in the Bible, Book of Mormon or Doctrine and Covenants, is not sufficient proof that no such thing as a mother did exist there…. does not common sense tell us that we must have had a mother there also?”
The Mormon church does not encourage people to worship Ashtoreth. INSTEAD, they encourage people to worship the President (Prophet) of the Church. The fact that Mormons consider every word coming forth from the mouths of these (so called) Prophets to be the Word of God and every WRITTEN article authored by the President of the Church, to be SCRIPTURE, is it any wonder why people are leaving the church at a rapid rate. I have spent years listening to General Conference talks by the General Authorities, and I can unequivocally say, that I have never heard anything profound or inspirational coming from the mouths of these men. To the contrary, most of these guys need lessons in public speaking. Their talks are boring and repetitive. They often imitate the speech patterns of other GAs. Have you ever noticed how many GC speakers tend to emulate the speaking habits of other speakers; For example, President Eyring’s clacking of his tongue and his tendency to hold up fingers when counting off certain talking points. Lots of GC speakers now do the same thing. Oh yeah, and they all love to shed tears whenever speaking. I have seen these guys tear up over absolutely nothing. They don’t cry because they feel the Holy Ghost, they cry because it is learned behavior
Hi Soldiermp,
Heavenly Mother may not be mentioned much, however, just believing there is, is a form of idolatry. And I think that was Michelle’s point.
But, I completely agree with you on the rest. Although I have never been Mormon, I’ve watched, and or listened to several General Conference’s. And yes, they all seem to speak with the same sing-songy cadence. And no it’s not a coincidence. Because after a while it can be hypnotic, and trance like. Making some to think it’s spiritual.
And outside of the usual “pray, pay, obey”, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of substance. Just a hodgepodge of religious/ biblical words, all tossed up
In a bowl called” word salad”, mixed in w/ heresy and blasphemy. And yes, rather boring, ( I need a nap just thinking about it).
Thank you for all your insight, I enjoy reading your comments.
