April 13 – 1 Cor. 15:16, 29 “For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?”

A cult has qualified itself as such when they base an entire doctrine on one or two verses. It always leaves an open door for errors on translation and/or taking it out of context. Today’s LDS reference comes from their infamous 16 Points of a True Church.
Paul asked the Corinthians why they were baptizing their dead when they didn’t believe in the resurrection to begin with. Most of chapter 15 was the argument of Paul in defense of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Point 16. The true church must practice baptism for the dead. 1 Cor. 15:16 and 29.”
Baptisms for the Dead, Spirit Prison, are just more deceitful ramblings from Joseph Smith. According to the scriptures, IT IS APPOINTED ONCE UNTO MEN TO DIE AND AFTER THAT, THE JUDGEMENT.(Hebrews 9:27). Nobody gets a second chance; there is no waiting around in Spirit Prison hoping some relative or some high school kid with a 5:30 am temple time, baptizes you and does all the temple ordinances for you. The church uses the Baptisms for the Dead and the Saving Ordinances for the Dead as a means of guilt tripping people people to the temple.
