July 29 – Trifle Not With Sacred Things. Leviticus 19:11-12 “Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another. 12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.”

In our last look at Ms. Burton’s talk on how to draw closer to God, we see how she quoted from D&C 6:12 which says you shouldn’t trifle with sacred things. The lesson here, she said, is to accept what God has said without changing things because His words are sacred.
Ask the Mormon if they find anything odd in her statement. The entire reason Mormonism is in existence is because Joe Smith ‘trifled’ with God’s word.

Church News, ‘Sister Burton Shares Nine Ways to Draw Closer to God,’ March 2, 2014
“Trifle not with sacred things” (D&C 6:12). Individuals must recognize that revelation from the Lord is a sacred trust, Sister Burton taught. Quoting from Elder Richard G. Scott, Sister Burton said, “Inspiration carefully recorded shows God that His communications are sacred to us. … Such recording … should be protected from loss or intrusion by others.”
I get so sick of these pompous church leaders that are always saying things like: “Elder Holland taught us and I quote” or “President Nelson reminded us during last General Conference and I quote”
The other thing church leaders love doing is telling stories about the wonderful people they have met and been inspired by
.
We have all heard the stories of the handicapped young man with cerebral palsy whose greatest wish in life was to go on a mission or: The widow lady with 5 kids who always manages to get her kids to church every Sunday. Or, the little girl who spoke with the missionaries while playing with her friends. She asked the Elders if they had an extra copy of the BOM. They gave her a copy of the BOM. Some weeks later as those same elders stood on a street corner, this same little girl called out to them. She said that not only she, but also her parents as well, have been studying the BOM every night and unanimously decided that they (all) wanted to be baptized into the LDS church. That little girl, is now 20 years old and is serving a mission in?? You hear the same old stories every GC. I honestly believe that many of the people they talk about are fictitious
If you’re driving somewhere you’ve never been, and you choose at some point to deviate from the GPS or map because you “FEEL” or you “KNOW” where you’re going, or someone tries to steer you in the wrong direction, and you get lost, is it your fault or the map.
It is the same with God’s word (Holy Bible). If we deviate from the Bible and accept other scripture and interpretation, we get lost. The Bible is our life map.
Stay the course, Melissa
amen sister, amen!
