Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 35, December 15, 1900, No. 24, p. 823 “Angels obeyed Gospel. We think angels are very holy beings. How did they become holy? How can they dwell in the presence of God? They have become holy through obeying that Gospel which is taught to us. Every child who obeys that Gospel can become an angel in character and disposition. There was a time when angels were mortal as we are, and they were tempted as we are. But they resisted temptation. By the aid of God’s Holy Spirit they conquered their evil inclinations. They were born again and continued to resist evil until they became angels.” — George Q. Cannon, Gospel Truth: Discourses and Writings of President George Q. Cannon, selected, arranged, and edited by Jerreld L. Newquist [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1987], 141.)
Matthew 22:30 “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”
1 Corinthians 6:3 “Do you not know that we are to judge angels to say nothing of ordinary matters?”
Hebrews 2:16 “For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.”
Oh my, today’s LDS reference is wrong on so many levels… Not only are the bible verses above great resources, but there’s also the classic Galatians 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
Our Lord has provided numerous reasons why Mr. Cannon was wrong. The dear Mormon people can apply this to Joe Smith’s supposed visits of men turned angels like Moroni.
Furthermore, how do you know if you’re going to be an angel, or a god/goddess someday? Oh what a tangled web we weave…Be sure to share this info with the Mormon you know, and don’t forget to pray!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Some LDS members have a tendency to actually confer with dead family members The whole theology of baptizing for the dead, scrapbooking and boasting of pioneer ancestors,, indexing names of dead people, marriage sealings for dead people, having huge genealogy books or scrapbooks of dead relatives that members love to share during Relief Society or EQ meetings.
One day during a High Priest Quorum meeting,an older,lifelong member of the church was leading our group discussion. He mentioned using a medium to talk to his dead grandfather. I was, needless to say, shocked. Later, I mentioned the matter to the Bishop. The thing was, as this old guy was telling us about what his granddad was telling him (via the medium) nobody in that meeting flinched an eye. That is when I went to the Bishop to let him know
MORMONS BEWARE: Anytime somebody (Prophet, General Authority etc), tells you something that is not written in God’s Word, you should shun (ignore) that person’s words.. A true person of God will only preach or teach from the Bible.
Have you guys heard anything about the Mormon belief about the Sentinel Guards at the Gates of the Celestial Kingdom.? What I was taught, was that these guards were former human beings, that had lived righteous lives, but not quite up to the “entry requirements” of the CK. When I was told this, we were discussing (Sunday School class),, people that were otherwise righteous,but that had never been married. Marriage is part of the entry requirement to the highest level of the CK. If you’ve never been married, you can’t achieve this elevated status
Another question, why is there need for guards at the gates of the Celestial Kingdom.? Are they afraid of break ins, saboteurs. Do members of the highest level of the CK, have to wear special badges, that they have to show the guards anytime they need to reenter the gates?
Hey SoldierMP!!!
We’re wondering where you’re at lately!!!
