“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude 1:3
Journal of Discourses 9:298 “With us the Bible is the first book, the Book of Mormon comes next, then the revelations in the book of Doctrine and Covenants, then the teachings of the living oracles, yet you will find, in the end, that the living oracles of God have to take all things of heaven and earth, above and beneath, and bring them together and devote them to God, and sanctify and purify them and prepare them to enter into the kingdom of heaven.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, May 25, 1862
And therein lies the problem. Mr. Young contradicted himself while offering grand speeches to church members which served one purpose: to trick and mislead.
#1 – Why say the Bible is first when clearly it isn’t?
#2 – The true word of God came down from heaven and already pure. Why would you have to ‘purify’ something for God if it was from God?
#3 – Why would you take things from beneath and devote them to God?
#4 – What purpose does/did this serve the Mormon people?
It may seem our reference today is a stretch, however, this is still going on with the Church today. They say members should keep the latest copy of the Ensign on their nightstand because they contain the latest message of leaders at conference.
If those teachings contradict their other books, which isn’t uncommon, then what?
How do members reconcile this in their daily walk of life? You see, it’s so much easier, not to mention better, to follow what God said in His word. The Bible said we have a common salvation that’s already been delivered to the saints, meaning the message of faith is already here.
Remember to pray!
With Love in Christ;
