Journal of Discourses 2:346 “…How was it that Joseph Smith was enabled to make those doctrines as plain as the alphabet? It was because God was with him; God was in the work; and we would just as soon worship that Holy Spirit or intelligence in Joseph Smith or in any person else, not the person, but the God that is in him, as to worship the same attributes somewhere else. And when we find the Father of Jesus Christ, we will worship Him, not the flesh and bones, but the attributes.
…How can the poor ignorant Indians of the forest worship acceptably until they are taught about God and about Jesus? They must understand a great many things in order to enable them to comprehend the things of God, and be baptized in an acceptable manner. If we would worship the Father and the Son, we must know something about them.” — Orson Pratt, Great Salt Lake City, February 18, 1855
John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Mr. Pratt’s description of whom they worship is a good example why LDS members have always been confused about the Lord.
According to Orson, they don’t know the father of Jesus even though they’ve proclaimed he’s the literal father of Jesus. Making matters worse, he revealed they wouldn’t worship him.
Moreover, it’s quite sad he also needed to deride Native Americans while he had time at that pulpit. Mr. Pratt must not have read Romans 1:18-20 where God said everyone knows who He is.
So now they’re just worshiping a theory of some abstract behavior characteristic. Wow, if that’s not scary, nothing is my friend.
Their behavior today is much the same. Their prophet told BYU students this week to pray about whether or not they believe church leaders have been called of God. For more info, see Church News.
1.Why would they tell people to pray about this?
2.The people Mr. Nelson was supposedly speaking to are either disaffected members, or non-LDS. How would they know he said this?
Please, don’t forget to pray for these dear people!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
