February 21 –Self Proclaimed Prophet-hood. God warns us about false prophets in Deut. 13:6-9 “If thy brother, the son of they mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou has no known, thou, nor thy father; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him…”

It seems clear how serious God was in regards to false prophets. He wanted none of them to survive, and He certainly didn’t want us to pity them. We are told not to listen at all to them.

Joseph Smith seemed to believe that he could slip out of his self-proclaimed prophet-hood anytime he chose to do so. Is this reasonable considering all we’ve learned just this year? He is quoted in Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith as follows; “…I told them that a prophet was a prophet only when he was acting as such”. History of the Church 5:265
God has warned us to Search the Scriptures, for in them we have eternal life; and they are they which TESTIFY OF ME. (John 5:39). If people, such as THE early Mormons, had truly “Searched the Scriptures” and believed in their hearts, that that God said what he meant, Joe Smith would never have become the man he did. People would have seen him for what he really was. A con man that was looking for an easy way to make a dime.Too many people have been (historically )too lazy to read the scriptures. Instead they rely on people like Joe Smith and some of today’s televangelists, to tell them what God says. The result is that people sacrifice both their souls and in the case of televangelist, their money as well.
